Must Have Books for Early Childhood Educators

Here is a list of some of my favorite teacher resource books. You may want to add these to your own professional library as you are able. If you can't afford a lot of books, check them out from your professional library at your school or on your campus. You won't regret making the investment in your future as an educator. If you can only afford one book, then I recommend Creative Resources for the Early Childhood Classroom. It is expensive but for each theme it tells what vocabulary words you need to cover and the definition, exactly what to put and do in centers and gives you a list of books to read. All of the subject areas are thoroughly covered. But, it doesn't have worksheets so be warned if you are a whole group, worksheet driven type teacher.
I recommend the following books if you are on a tight budget and just need some content area books to get you started for the year: 1. Daily Skills Practice ( divided by grade level; math and language arts warm ups for every day) 2. Draw Write Now Books ( buy 1 at a time; handwriting, language arts, social studies, science) 3. Month by Month Phonics for (your grade level) 4. Science Poems and Songs for Young Learners 5. Social Studies K-1
If you are on a super, duper tight budget then I recommend the following 3 books: 1. First Grade (or whatever grade level you are teaching) in Photographs 2. Classroom Management in Photographs 3. Literacy Workstations (Debbie Diller is awesome!!!)
